English
In the English Learning Area students learn to Speak, Listen, Read, View and to Write with purpose, understanding and critical awareness in a wide range of contexts. They develop knowledge of the ways in which language varies according to purpose, audience and context and can then apply that knowledge.
Through the study of Standard Australian English, teaching and learning programs will involve recognising, analysing, and building on students’ existing language competence, including non-standard forms of English. Teachers draw upon the diversity of students’ backgrounds, teach students strategies for learning the language, and provide a range of learning experiences which expand from the familiar to unfamiliar and from simple to complex.
